  • The Calvary App!

    The Calvary App!

Some exciting news … we’re finally ready to announce something that we’ve been working on in the background for a few months now… a new Church mobile app!

The app is accessible for both iOS and Android:

    iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/calvaryem/id1312993092?mt=8
    Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.calvaryem.app

Right now, the app is a place where you can get:

    • The weekly bulletins – These will be updated on the app for Sunday mornings for you access on your device. And…as a bonus, if you click on the verses in the bulletin, they should open up the verse for you right in the app. (Thanks, Shae!)
    • The church calendar
    • Videos and live streams of services
    • Online giving
    • Weekly Prayer List (Accessible by Members Only)
    • Weekly Nursery Schedule (Accessible by Members Only)
    • Church Directory (Accessible by Members Only)
    • Ministry Schedules (such as worship team, etc) (Accessible by Members Only)

As you see above, there’s a private section that’s accessible only for church members.

To gain access, you have to create an account and then get it verified that you’re a member of Calvary. To get verified, you can either: Sign in with the email address you’re using in the church directory (these emails should be already authorized) … OR if you’re using a different email account to sign in than the one already in the directory, send an email to cadmin@calvaryem.org asking for access.

We hope you’ll benefit from the app, and let us know what you think or if you notice any bugs. As we see how it’s being used and as time allows, we’ll be adding occasional bug fixes and new features!

Let us know if you have any bug reports, feedback, or good ideas, would love to hear them!

  • New Church Signs

    New Church Signs

As Yiyin shared in a previous post about the new bulletin, there are quite a few changes that need to happen with our recent name change, one of those is the external church signs.

The sign directly in front of the church was designed and crafted by a gifted church member.

The sign on the corner of Amwell Rd and Franklin St was recently installed by a local business.

We are thankful for everyone involved in these projects!

  • New Bulletins!

    New Bulletins!

As many might have noticed, the church has recently adopted a new bulletin design. It’s something that we’ve wanted to do for awhile now, since the old format has been static for many years now.  It’s also a celebration of the name change we are doing to Calvary Community Church.
     bulletin - front
The basic idea and goal of the redesign was to convey information more efficiently and more beautifully/professionally while ultimately saving paper. This new bulletin format will have a “special announcements” section in the back. Many of the things we are currently using bulletin inserts for will be in this section, more concisely and sometimes with a nice icon.

We believe this will be more modern and streamlined while also saving on paper. Special handouts can still be made for truly special occasions, but for the most part the world has moved on from clip-art based bulletin inserts, and we think that we can put them behind us while conveying their information in a more consumable format.

We are especially thankful that God has provided Sherrian to work on this project!

  • Lighting and Ceiling Tile Work is Complete

Lighting and Ceiling Tile Work is Complete

In our previous post from February, we shared updates from the ceiling and lighting project in the sanctuary. We are happy that the project is now complete!

Here are some before and after pics:

The recessed lighting offers a softer glow and more widespread coverage than the fluorescent lights.

The contractor also added brighter and more efficient bulbs to the wall sconces around the church and improved the lighting over the instrument area.

    Baptismal Lights

Two lights were also added over the baptismal which will be a blessing to those reading their testimonies!

Thank you to the deacons and all who helped in this endeavor.

  • Lighting and Ceiling Tile Update

    Lighting and Ceiling Tile Update

You may have noticed, we are updating the lighting and drop ceiling in the sanctuary!

New tiles and recessed lights starting to replace the old tiles

The new recessed light have replaced the fluorescent lights to provide an updated, warmer atmosphere that is consistent with other sanctuary lighting.

    Lights on after installation

Dimmer switches will be included to reduce or increase the intensity of the light.

With the changes to the lights, it was necessary to update the ceiling tiles. The new ceiling tiles will provide a cleaner and more elegant look.

Overall, this project will leave the sanctuary looking cleaner and more updated, and will provide a more inviting atmosphere for those worshiping.

  • Nursery Changes

    Nursery Changes

As shared in our first Plugged-In presentation, the nursery will  be undergoing some exciting changes!

The baby and toddler nurseries will be combining into one room:

    • Partition
      • safe – designed for children
      • Modular – can be moved as needs change
      • Provides ample storage on both sides
      • Will prevent toddler escape attempts
    • Nursery Workers can see over partition to help where needed on either side
    • Toys and activities for children will continue to be updated often
      • New coloring/activity table and chairs on toddler side
    • Current Baby Nursery will continue to be private space for nursing or napping babies with their mothers

This setup will allow us to have one less worker in the nursery each Sunday during worship service, reducing the workers needed from four to three.

Here are some pictures of the new combined nursery:

Thanks, Kristen (and Adam for helping her) for planning, ordering, assembling, and organizing the new nursery room!

  • New Coat Rack

    New Coat Rack

Because of the new translation booth and storage area in the back of the sanctuary, the area where people usually hanged coats was lost.

There is a new coat rack as well as coat hooks in the vestibule, between the sanctuary and the fellowship hall.   Also located at the same location are some coat hooks on the wall. Please hang the coats up there to provide more seating space in the pews.

Thanks Roy for providing a new place to hang up our coats!

  • Coffee and drinks

    Coffee and drinks

We have recently updated the coffee and drinks system to be more accessible and user-friendly.  The coffee and hot water are now in thermal carafes on the drink table, which is located in the Fellowship Hall, newly by the ramp.

In the old system, the coffee and hot water would only be out and accessible during the fellowship time after Sunday School, but now they would be available from the start of Sunday School to end of worship service.

The coffee also tastes so much better with the new drip system!  Thank you Melinda and Julie for your service to us!
